Blind pupils fetching water from faulty pump transformed into water well
The Head Teacher of Paul School for the Blind in Bo, Mohamed S. Conteh, has said that the hand pump in the school compound is faulty, as this has been a long standing problem being faced by the administration of the school.
In a down beat mood, Mr. Conteh said to this medium that what could help them address the problem of the pump is not forth coming, as they have gone without government subvention for over six months.
“I have made this known to the government that the school pump is not in good working order and that they should come to our aid but to no avail and the children find it difficult to access the water from what has been transformed into a water well” he lamented.
He added that in the dry season they find it more difficult to access water.
According to him, they have a big tank in the compound where the water can be stored when the pump is in good working order but this not happening except the problem of the pump is addressed.
He pleaded with the government to ensure that their subvention issue is resolved to especially enable the school pay salaries of their staff.
Mr. Conteh said that there are 50 blind children in the school, among them are 30 girls and 20 boys, who deserve attention. Paul School for the Blind is 100% boarding home, it has been revealed.
The School Head however disclosed that he has a friend in the United States of America who he has contacted about the hand pump repair and he is yet to do something about the problem.
Also, the school has second bus in a state of disrepair that was donated by the UK Association of the Blind.
Mr. Conteh is calling on well-wishers and philanthropists to lend a hand in ameliorating the series of problems undermining progress at the blind school in the southern province.
