Residents of Magbeni town chiefdom, Port Loko District in an exclusive interview expressed disappointment on both the chiefdom officials and the government of President Julius Maada Bio.
Residents of Magbeni chiefdom expressed frustrations towards local and central authorities as they said that the town has several developmental problems as it is evidently seen with the poor roads.
We are faced with several developmental problems but the most prominent amongst are the poor road network and lack of better medical facilities, said the town head Morlai Dumbuya.
It is unfortunate, Dumbuya said that the people they have placed in positions of trust like the Regent Chief Pa Saidu Conteh to advocate on behalf of the town aren’t doing much to positively transform the status of the town and surrounding communities.
He continued that the township is in dire need of development despite the Regent Chief Pa Saidu Conteh and his team of local officials is collecting revenue from the Sand beach but nothing to show for it that is beneficial to the people.
He concluded his statement that due to the poor road network their Agricultural activities has gone backwards and their only source of earning income he said is largely through Sand mining and Agriculture.
Alhaji Bundu, Chairman of Magbeni town bike riders said there are many damaged roads in the town and Magbeni is not in a good form despite several political promises made by political leaders in the Constituency to change the status of lives as bike riders and even with education he said the town is backwards as we are facing challenges.
Mbalu Sankoh Chairlady of Masumuna Junction said women are the most vulnerable people.
We, and our school going pupils have faced several accidents on this road and we pay dues to the chiefdom authorities for the sand that we’re mining in Magbeni town but yet still no developments she said.
She concluded that government should launch an investigation into the activities of the chiefdom authorities to determine how they’ve been using or spending monies generated through revenue collections.
