Baimba Adams Rogers made another appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba road court No.1 in Freetown on a count charge of Embezzlement contrary to section 17(b) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the charge sheet,  the accused on diverse dates between the 8th September 2021 to the 3rd March 2022 at Janeway travel and tours limited at no. 14 hill side bye pass road off Pademba road,  Freetown Fraudulently embezzled the sum of Seventy three million  three hundred and sixty two thousand  two hundred and fifty five Leones.

According to the first prosecution witness, Mariama Mary Daramy said she is the CEO of Janemar travel and tours, and knew the accused persons as staff of the said office.  She recalled the 8th September 2021 to the 3rd March 2022. She said as the CEO of Janemar, she partners with loyal Camp in doing money transactions which includes Rai, Western Union, RnB and SLE. She said on the 25th January 2021 the accused became a full time staff and was assigned to be the agent collecting money from loyal camp for Janemar travel and tours limited. PW1 said the accused was trained to confirm transaction codes and to collect money. On two occasions, the accused went to collect money but returned empty handed when I called loyal camp; they told me that money was not enough for distribution so they told me to send the accused later which I did. Later, I sent the accused person, and he then returned with some money in the bag.

Magistrate Kekura granted a bail of two hundred and fifty million Leones or two sureties in like some. One of the sureties must be gainfully employed in a recognized institution, must produce employment letter of the said institution and the other surety must be resident in the western urban in Freetown,  must produce identity card depicting address in Freetown,  to be verified by the Bench and approved by the Deputy Acting Registrar

Matter has been adjourned to the 24th May 2022.
