Kambia District Health Management Team (DHMT) together with its Partner Worldwide has on the 25th April, 2022 commemorate world malaria day in the district.
April 25th every year is a date set aside by the world health organization (WHO) to observe it. According to the District focal person for malaria at the District health management team, Amara Braima in his keynote address during his engagement said this year’s commemoration is the 15th Anniversary since WHO commenced it commemoration in 2007.
The international theme for this year’s is ‘Earnest Innovation to Reduce Malaria’ while the national theme is ‘Zero Malaria Start with me’.
He further stated that since malaria is a major course of illness for majority sickness disturbing community people they decided to invite pregnant women, lactating mothers, health inspectors and community stakeholders to educate them on the preventive measures of malaria in turn they will Cascade the message to other community members on how to prevent and control the spread of malaria in their different communities.
Rounding up his presentation the malaria focal person called on all participants to serve as Ambassadors to help educate other community members who were not part of meeting so that the prevalence of malaria will drop drastically in Sierra Leone and Kambia District.
Whilst the District coordinator for focus 1000 Madam Isatu Kamara thank all participants for attending the meeting, and that all that have been presented by other speakers is not new but the community Representatives needs to do the needful in cleaning all their surrounding’s so that they will help to prevent malaria in their different localities. She ended up advising pregnant women, lactating mothers to sleep under bed net daily so that they will be protected from mosquito bites which is the major course of malaria.
One of the participant of the training, Sarah Mansaray a lactating mother said she learnt a lot as far as the meeting is concerned, and added that according to presentations during the meeting they were advised by health practitioners to sleep under bed net with their kids daily, and to also cleaned their environment.
Madam Mansaray expressed dissatisfaction over the organizers of the meeting that some of them came from different localities but no transportation refund was given to them which is embarrassing to them looking at the current standing of the country were they spent more than twenty thousand Leones (le 20,000) to access the venue.
In a nutshell a pupil of Sierra Leone Islamic federation, Kadiatu Kamara gave the vote of thanks and was climax with prayers.
