SIERRA LEONE DRAWN IN GROUP A ALONGSIDE NIGERIA

Sierra Leone Senior national team Leone Stars has on the19th April 2022 been drawn alongside super Eagles of Nigeria, Sao Tome or Mauritius and Guinea Bissau in the group stage of the next Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to be hosted in Ivory Coast (2023).

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) held the draw in Johannesburg  South Africa as and it was hosted by a popular television presenter Thomas Mlambo, former Ivorian and  Chelsea striker Solomon Kalou, and former South Africa captain Lucas Radebe.

Sierra Leone Senior National team Leone Stars for the second time is facing the super Eagles of Nigeria in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the two sides have met (16) times in all competitions and Nigeria has won (9) times drawn (5) games and lost one that was in 2001 in a World Cup qualifiers in Freetown.

Sierra Leone and Sao Tome Principe have met four times in all competitions with Sierra Leone winning one loss two with one draw.

Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau have met (12) times in all competitions and the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone have won seven times drawing five times and they have yet to tease defeats from them.

According to some football fans in the streets of Freetown, the technical team need to compete considering that the tournament of recent is full of surprises in terms of teams qualifying for the tournament and two teams will qualify from each group.

The (48) countries qualified to participate in the second round of the qualifiers and they were placed in (12) groups.

Senegal won the very first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in its history in 2022.

The much-coveted trophy will be put back into play next June with the start of the qualifiers for the next AFCON which will take place in Cote d’Ivoire. The Africa Champion the Teranga Lions of Senegal we’re placed in group L with Benin, Rwanda, and Mozambique.

 The host Ivory Coast, we’re placed in a group (H) the Elephants will approach this qualifying campaign with less pressure since they are already assured of participating in this competition at home ground.

Following their fantastic displays in the last tournament, Comoros will be facing Ivory Coast, as well as Zambia, ten years after their defeat in the AFCON finals against Herve Renard’s Chipolopolos.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will be able to prepare for their participation in the Qatari World Cup with matches against the Harambee Stars of Kenya, Namibia, and Burundi.
