Detective Sergeant Alpha Yembeh Mansaray with Force Number 8885 testifies before Magistrate Isata Sellu Tucker of Court No 3 on Pademba Road Freetown on a mobile phone theft.

On Friday 21st December 2021, at about 2:20pm, he was on duty at the Malta Street Police Post, when the Complainant Kalimatu Sillah of No. 28 Upper Bombay Street, Freetown, arrested and bring in the accused and alleged that as she was trying to onboard a vehicle for Grafton, the accused stole her mobile phone that was inside her bag, upon the receipt, he obtained statement from the complainant and witnesses.

The Police witness further that Detective Constable 17187 Kamara M on 21st December 2021, he obtained statement from the accused which he recorded down in English, at the conclusion he read and explained his statement in krio which he admitted to be true and correct and the accused signed by affixing his right hand tomb print. He said base on the evidence he obtained charge statement from the accused with the offence of larceny from person. Both caution and charge statement tendered in Court. At the conclusion the accused was asked to cross examine the witness as he is not represented, but he told the Court that he did not have question.

 It could be recall that the accused is charged with a count of Larceny from Person Contrary to Section 14 of the Larceny Act 1916. According to the charge sheet, the accused Abu Kabia on Friday 24th December 2021, at Malta Street, lorry park Freetown, stole from the person of Karimatu Sillah one Spark 5 Air mobile phone value one million three hundred and fifty thousand Leones, property of the said Karimatu Sillah.

Bail was refused while matter adjourned to the 28th March 2022. Sergeant 8811 Wilson F is Prosecuting.
