The Sierra Leone Premier League board and Disciplinary Committee has on 16th March 2022 awarded three-points and three goals to BO Rangers Football club for a protest they filed against Ports Authority Football Club for the fielding of two ineligible players (Desmond Wellington and Abu Bakarr Kamara) in a Premier League match that Port Authority Football won by (1-0) at the BO Mini Stadium on the 5th March 2022.
BO Rangers in a Letter dated 7th March 2022 filed in a protest against Port Authority citing that both players were ineligible to represent them as they had participated in the first round of the season as players of Freetown City Council football club ( FCFC) and also pointed out that both players were registered by Freetown City Council football club for the second round and were never duly transferred to another club.
According to the ruling of the Sierra Leone Premier League Board Protest and Discipline Committee started that the two players ought not to have played for the Port Authority Football club without proper transfer and registration of them with the Sierra Leone Premier League Board and according forfeited all three points. The Board has ordered the Port Authority Football club to pay a fine of two million, five hundred thousand Leones before their next match, and by that BO Rangers are back to the top spot of the Sierra Leone Premier League table a point of East End Lions Football Club.
This means the fight for the Premier League table has intensified as both teams are looking forward to winning the league and in a press release from the East End Lions Football Club expressed dismay over the Discipline Committee decision nothing that it has profound implications in the title race and called on the Lawyers to carefully study the matter and advise them accordingly.
They argued in the Press Release that to determine champion, points should be earned on the pitch rather than merely awarded.
“East End Lions strongly believe that the Championship of the Premier League should be won based on results on the football pitch.”
The club also questioned the independence and neutrality of two members of the committee whom they said are BO Rangers and should have recused themselves from the matter.
