In the early hours of yesterday 15th February, in Yealiboya community, Samu Chiefdom Kambia district fire has destroyed about fifty house and many other properties worth millions of Leones.
The fire also engulfed the tentative structures of the Republic of Sierra Leone Arm forces (RSLAF) that is station in the island; out board machines, food items, fiscal cash, business items, fishes and school pupils books, uniforms and other items were burnt down completely.
From what A-Z gathered, this is not the first time for the Island to have experience fire incident considering the nature in which the houses are clustered, a single fire outbreak will always leave the natives with huge sad experience.
Responding to questions on the cause of the outbreak, Chief in Yealiboya Pa Adikalie Kamara said “the cause of the fire is unknown, but as far as it is a fishing community it might be related to people drying fishes for sale”.
The affected residents are calling for help from the government and other humanitarian organizations as they are seriously in need of basic amenities like, food, clothe, and medical attention.
The disaster Management Committee in Kambia district is yet to visit the Island for proper assessment.
Yealiboya is a community in Samu Chiefdom surrounded by water and fishing is common activities of the inhabitants. Before now, this community has been the most productive and lucrative area when it comes to doing business and fishing.
