The Minister of Energy DR. Alhaji Kanja Sesay turned on the lights at Masiaka on the 25th February 2022 under the renewable energy project for rural communities.
The funding of this project was provided by United Kingdom and the said project was implemented by UNOPS.
The occasion was graced by representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, a representative from the British High Commission and other key dignitaries. The paramount of the said district delivered a brief welcome statement to the people and dignitaries who graced the occasion.
In his statement, the Minister of Energy Dr. Alhaji Kanja Sesay made mention of the progress that the ruling party has made so far in that part of the country “when the ruling party came in governance the district headquarter towns were in dire need of electricity but the situation today is different as these district headquarters now enjoy the privileges of having an electricity facility in the comfort of their homes or as the case maybe” the minister lamented.
Most of the towns and chiefdom headquarter towns have benefitted from this project and with the support of donor partners they are overhauling the electricity system in the country.
The minister issued out a firm warning for those who are in the habit of stealing electricity to desist from such habitual practice or face the full penalty of the law.
He further stated that, Masiaka will also be benefitting from the electricity source of Power Leone. He encouraged the people of Masiaka to take proper care of the facility as their own. The occasion ended with a vote of thanks by the councilor, Abu Bakarr Bangura.
