Noise Pollution
Nobody enjoys noise. This is in contrast to music that naturally attracts even animals. Music is sound so rhythmic, melodic and harmonic as to affect the aesthetic emotions. Noise is simply reprehensible.
There is an attitude of egoism in this regard. If only people can think that what is not good for them should also not be good for others that will be fine.
Playing loud music in vehicles is no sign of education or civilization. But such practice is done by semi – literate drivers and their apprentices to impress the passengers that they are well-to-do. We have just been through December, the noisiest month all because of Christmas which most people misunderstand and call it X-Mass.
Majority of citizens in this Muslim dominated country join in without the foggiest idea of what Christmas means. The police should be more pro-active in granting permits for occasion that are noise prone with special emphasis on limiting their hours of operation.
In the days of Old in this country when the Christianity dominated the religions scene there was no nuisance from so-called born again churches and minarets blamed from loud-hailers. This has become the new normal nuisance especially at fixed times of the day.
We can be successfully hypocritical to man but not to God. This is because we cannot fool God. “Neither man nor angel can discern Hypocrisy, the only evil that walks Invisible, except to God alone”. – John Milton
It is real hypocrisy to be blaring all that noise for worshipers who already know their hours of worship. In addition to that almost all worshipers have either wrist watches or phones making it unnecessary for all that noise. “The old order changeth, yielding place to new “-Alfred Tennyson.
But there are certain people in our midst who are allergic to change. They would carry out customs till the end of the world. Worst of all they shrill in the English language to an audience 95 percent semi-literate. This pharisaic attitude must stop. Its essence is only nauseating. Can the Ministry of the Environment put an end to this nuisance by passing some effective bye- laws?
