Fraudster Refused Bail

 Joseph Mannah made another appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 in Freetown on four counts charges.

Count one conspiracy to defraud contrary to law, count two money laundering contrary to section 15 (1) (a) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Combating of financing of terrorism Act 2012 Act No. 2 of 2013, count three obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to section 32 (1) of the larceny Act of 1916 and count four conspiracy to defraud contrary to law.

According to the particulars of offence revealed in count one, the accused person Joseph Mannah on a date unknown 1st June 2020 and Monday 27th July 2020 Freetown western area of the republic of Sierra Leone with intent to defraud conspired together with other persons unknown to defraud Ikechukwu Victor Ogbusiagu the sum fifty million Leones (Le 50,000,000.00)

Owing to the particulars of offence for count two, the accused person on Friday 28th May 2021 at Grass Field, Kissy in Freetown Judicial District in the western area of the republic of Sierra Leone, illicitly converted the sum of twenty thousand United States Dollars ($20,000) equivalent to two hundred and twenty million Leones (Le 220,000,000.00) derived from an unlawful activity which is a property of Abdul Mark Dumbuya

The same accused person Joseph Mannah on count three, on Monday 27th July 2020 at the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Cline Town at College Road Freetown, in the western area of the Republic of Sierra Leone with intent to defraud, obtained from Ikechukwu Victor Ogbusiagu the sum of fifty million Leones (Le 50,000,000.00) by falsely pretending that the accused person has one (1) Mercedes Benz Tipper vehicle for sale, Knowing the same to be false.

According to the particulars of offence for the four count charge, the accused person on Tuesday 21st September 2021 at the Sierra Leone State Lottery office at Tower Hill in Freetown in the Republic of Sierra Leone with intent to defraud and obtained from Gregory Thomas the sum of seven thousand United States Dollars ($7,000) equivalent to seventy million Leones (Le 70,000,000.00) by falsely pretending that the accused person Joseph Mannah has a Toyota 4 Runner Jeep for sale, Knowing the same to be false.

The accused pleaded not guilty on the four count charges, C.M Jengo, EM Barrie E.S Vandi and S.L Gbonbgoto were the defence counsels for the accused person, while Z.Y Bangura 12090 is prosecuting.

Magistrate Sahr Kekura denied bail for the accused person and was sent to the male correctional centre.

Matter has been adjourned to Wednesday 23rd February 2022.
