Straddling between Political Parties
It is known that only God and fools don’t change. And because representatives of political parties are supposed to be wise men and women they change from time to time. Such changes of opinion however are expected to be national otherwise they suffer negative consequences, uniformity of face and structure is not possible. As a result there can be no congruity of opinion.
Party discussions are things inseparable from good governance. Sometimes party representatives find themselves between the rock and the hard place and may wish to be on the other side with regard to certain issues. And some of them do vote with the ruling party against their own on issues which the feel strongly to the chagrin of their colleagues. It should be borne in mind that not charging one’s opinion breeds reptiles of the mind. Carpet crossing is no new phenomenon even in the mother of parliament in Britain. The late Sir .Winston Churchill who became Prime Minister of Britain was a typical carpet crosser.
This brings us to two of our national figures who have been stremously avoiding reptiles of their minds, namely Alpha Khan and Sam Sumana.
Alpha Khan has been exhibiting political chicanery to the admiration of many citizens while a few would chide his moves as opportunism. He is independent –minded and does not go with the crowd which is why he does not listen to the BBC program “story story from the market place. This is because if you listen to the market you won’t buy what you want. That is the APC member who attended a peace conference when all other members of the APC boycotted the conference. That is an example of independent –minded men.
Inked by the appointment of Alpha Khan as a cabinet Minister is suggesting that he campaigns for the APC in the forthcoming bye election in Port Loko putting him in a catch -22 situation. They threatened that if Alpha Khan campaigned for the SLPP he may be sued which threat the wily Alpha Khan may find laughable. Let’s wait and see how Alpha Khan will throw a party after an APC party victory in the forthcoming bye election in Port Loko.
Sam Sumana
This is a man with a vaulting ambition. Having achieved the height of a Vice-President, he would not rest until he becomes President of Sierra Leone. The people of Kono expressed their resentment at his illegal ouster from the Vice-Presidency by massive sympathy votes that resulted in his victory in Kono hard but that victory cannot be repeated owing to the unstable character of the man. The man is a Chief without chiefdom. He cannot be chief of the APC Chiefdom and C$C Chiefdom of the same time. The law does not allow it. He was hugely tantalized after the clause in the APC Constitution stipulated that one should continuously be a member of the party for five years. He has not still given up. He wants to return to the C4C but they would not accept him because he is an opportunist. He led the C4C up the garden path and left them there. He has acted like a pig returning to its vomit. His subterfuge led him to Ex- President Koroma who is still hanging on to the party chairmanship to use his influence in his vain campaign.
