During the just concluded nationwide judicial week initiated by the Chief Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards the sitting judge Justice Reginald Fyn has sentenced Mohammed Kamara to 12 months imprisonment for stealing two sheep valued at 3 Million Leones.

The convict who had spent six months in prison was arraigned before Justice Reginald Fyn on one count of larceny of sheep contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

State prosecutor Ahmed J M Bockarie alleged that the convict, sometimes in August 2021 in Freetown did steal two sheep worth 3 Million Leones.

The charges were read to the convict and pleaded guilty to the offence.

Before he was sentenced, Justice Fynn asked the accused to hear his side of the story.

The convict said that the sheep was given to him by his friend for the purpose of sale unknowing to him that the said sheep was a stolen sheep.

He added that his friend told him that the sheep belongs to his grandmother and that the said friend has been on the run ever since the incident and arrest of him happened.

Lawyer Morrison Karim of the Legal Aid Board who represented the convict made plea mitigation on behalf of the convict, however, Justice Reginald Fyn before sentencing the convict advised him to be careful with the kind of friend he associates with because they can lead him to trouble.

“You can lose your life for stealing two sheep, therefore I sentenced you to 12 months imprisonment” Justice Fyn pronounced.
