NATCO Manager Charged for Electricity Theft

33yrs old Vijay Sharwa manager NATCO made another appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba road court No.1 in Freetown on one count charge to wit Illegal Abstraction of Electricity Supply contrary to section 68 (1) (a) of the National electricity Act No.16 of 2011

According to the particulars of offence on Wednesday 8th September 2021 at PMD Junction Wellington the western area in Freetown dishonestly abstracted electricity supply.  

Lead in evidence by Assistant Superintendent of police Ibrahim S Mansaray.  

First Prosecution witness (PW1) inspector Amadu Wurie Jalloh attached to the electricity department unit CID headquarters said he recognized the accused person in the dock and recalled the 8th September 2021.

He said he was on duties at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters when they arrested and brought the accused person together with one EDSA meter. Upon receipt of the meter it was assigned to him for investigation the meter was tagged and registered and was submitted to the exhibit clerk, the witness said he will recognize the said meter if seen.  

PW 1 also said he obtained statement from the complainant on the same date himself and ASP Kamara M.S obtained statement from the accused person he was cautioned and question in krio language and recorded it in English the same statement was read and explained to the accused person in krio and he admitted it to be true by afflicting his right hand tumb print witness by ASP Kamara M.S while he signed as the recorder.

Cross examination by defense counsel, R. Johnson asked several questions to the witness.  

Magistrate Kekura adjourned the matter to 28th January 2022.
