The National Council for Civic Education and Development (NaCCED) and the Peninsular Descendants Association (PeDA), a community-based organisation working on public education on the environment and peaceful co-existence in the Western Area Rural District, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday 7th December 2021, at the NACCED headquarter, 21 Steward Street Freetown. The signing ceremony was witnessed by a cross section of the NaCCED staff and the executive of the PeDA

Officially opening the meeting, the chairman NaCCED Mr. Kalilu I Totangi, welcomed members of the PeDA to that very important signing ceremony and informed the gathering that sometime in November this year, members of the Peninsular Descendants Association requested partnership with NaCCED and asked for support to undertake civic education on the environment and peaceful co-existence in ten communities in the Western Area Rural District. Chairman Totangi lauded the initiative of the PeDA which, he said is pretty much in sync with the mandate of NaCCED.

Speaking further, the chairman said, since the request came in very close to the end of the financial year, NaCCED will disburse 50% of the total sum of over Ninety Million Leones PeDA requested to implement their planned activities in all the communities and the remaining funds will be disbursed early next year contingent on the successful implementation of the first tranche.

The highlight of the ceremony was the signing of the MOU between NaCCED and PeDA with the NaCCED Chairman signing on behalf of NaCCED and Mr. Mohamed S. Kamara on behalf of the PeDA. Mr. Mohamed Kisma Gassama, Director of Communications NaCCED, who is also the Point of Contact for the implementation of this project and Mr. Mohamed S Barrie on behalf of PeDA signed as witnesses.

Chairman Totangi seized the opportunity to extend an invitation to members of PeDA to another signing ceremony of an MOU with another organisation tentatively slated for the 16th December but that will be confirmed and communicated and to any other future engagement with our donors and partners. The vote of thanks was given by Mr Mohamed S. Kamara thanked the chairman and NaCCED profusely for honouring their request and pledged on behalf PeDA that, the funds will be utilised for its intended purpose.
