Partners In Health (PIH) in collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone has on Wednesday 1st December, 2021 commemorated this year’s World Aid’s Day on the “Theme End Inequalities, End Aids, End Pandemic”. This year’s commemoration started with a match pass through some principal streets of Koidu City to the Kumba Satta Amara hall D.O.Barracks, Koidu City, Kono District where statements were made by different stakeholders present.
Admire Sia Fillie is the Kono District HIV and Aids Focal Person.
She told the audience that the day is set aside every year by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise robust awareness on the prevention of the sickness thereby encouraging people to visit the nearest health Facility especially the Koidu Government Hospital for testing and treatment if tested positive on the basis of free of charge.
She thanked Partners In Health and the Government of Sierra Leone for the provision of free medical support to HIV and Aids Patient in order to reduce the wide spread of the virus in the district and the Country as a whole. On challenges Admire Sia Fillie catalogued the following; discrimination , provocation and the violation of the rights of people tested positive of the virus but lauded the family support Unit officers for their prompt and relentless interventions. She advised all against the aforementioned Vices noting that people living with the virus equally deserve respect.
The medical Superintendent of the Koidu Government Hospital Dr. Daniel Lavalie maintained that the infection rate of the virus is on the increase in Kono District and therefore strictly admonished people to be faithful with their partners or to apply the slogan no put it on, no put it in.
Meanwhile, Partners In Health Dr. Michael Mazzi expressed thanks and appreciation for the massive turn of people for the commemoration of the day in Koidu City-Kono District. He assured the Government of Sierra Leone of his organization unflinching and continued medical support at all times in order to save lives.
