Women Initiative for Sustainable Empowerment in Sierra Leone (WISE-SL) in collaboration with its partners has embarked on Stakeholders/Community Engagement on the Rights of Marginalized Women and Young Girls.
The marginalized females are Direct Victims of the COVID-19 and their active involvement in decision making processes at Community Levels with support from Urgent Action Fund-Africa.
The engagement took place at Hanga village in Kenema District.
The Director and National Coordinator of Women Initiative for Sustainable Empowerment in Sierra Leone (WISE-SL), Josephine Edna Pratt and Francess Marian Sandy said that COVID-19has caused serious catastrophe on the lives of vulnerable women and young girls dwelling in poor communities in Hangha community and its environs.
According to her,the outbreak hardly changed the social, economic and political rights of marginalized women and young girls especially those widows who lost their families and love ones in the midst of the disease.
On this background, Madam Sandy said WISE-SL in partnership with other network partners through the support from Urgent Action Fund-Africa and the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) has planned to organize a community engagement on the rights of marginalized women and young girls in order to promote their social, economic and political rights thus enhancing sustainable change in society.
She said that she is committed to working with women and children to ensure that their rights are protected.
Participants of the engagement commended WISE- Sierra Leone for focusing on them as they have been marginalized as victims of COVID 19 and called on the donors to continue with the good work to support the organization to continue with their engagement with survivors of COVID 19 and Gender Based Violence.
