The Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA) Elective Congress failed to hold its elective congress last weekend due to a court injunction.
According to Edmond Abu Junior, one of the electoral Commissioners said they have everything in place on Friday just to see that elective Congress hold as plan though they were faced with challenges that has to with delegates issue, club eligibility of to be members of the Association.
He affirmed that the Elective Congress is not just about Congress but it is also to adopt the Constitution of the Sierra Leone Athletic Association.
He confirmed that leading to the elective Congress there are some issues, key among them has to do with the status of delegates and the last ordinary congress that was held in Lunsar in 2018.
He said that before the elective Congress in Kenema all the executive signed a resolution where they all agreed on the following points;
1. That the meeting that was held to the commissioner Office with the executive members to add seven clubs that were not part were involved and eligible to part take
2. That what was agreed by the membership no one should go against it but members to work towards it.
3. A committee was set up to look into protests and complaints and the committee will be served for just the elections and after that, it will be dissolved and there where 13th signatures to the final resolutions.
The Sierra Leone Athletic Association Elective Congress has long overdue because the current executive mandates have elapsed and the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone has urged all Sporting disciplines that have issues of leadership to solve it now, if not they will not be allowed to partake in Birmingham Games next year’s in July to August.
In all these the athletes are the greatest people who feel the pain because a lot of them had to wake up every day to get themselves prepared for both local and international competitions.
