LEONE STARS SUFFERS SECDOND DEFEAT IN INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY

Sierra Leone National Senior team Leone Stars have on Saturday 13th November, 2021 lost another international friendly against Comoros by two goals to nil (2-0) at the Sapanca Stadium in Turkey.

Comoros took the lead in the first half of play and continued their runs as they fought back in the ninety minutes and got their second goal to wrap up their win against Sierra Leone in their very first encounter in a FIFA sanction International friendly.

The Leone Stars of Sierra Leone went to the Friendly as part of their preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Cameroon in January 2022.

This is Sierra Leone’s second straight defeat in the fourth Friendlies matches they have played and out of these matches, they have won 1 drew 1 and two.

According to Ibrahim Kamara the head of Media and Marketing at the Sierra Leone Football Association said there are preparations for another friendly match to be played on the 16th November 2021 before the team returns on the 17th November 2021.

John Keister the head coach of the National team said the friendly match is not about the results but to identifying players going to the Africa Cup of Nations, although they are going to be competitive in all the matches as a Technical teams their focus is to identify the players ahead of the AFCON.

The defeat means Sierra Leone Senior National has lost against Comoros for the first time since the two sides have met in an international friendly, and the late arrival is also a key factor that affected the team while compared to their counterpart Comoros who touch down in Turkey three days before the match day.

These are the last International window leading for the team to get themselves prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations, and when the team returned in December they will be prepared to go camping out of Sierra Leone for the competition ahead. 

Comoros is looking to make it first appearance for AFCON appearance while Sierra Leone is gracing the arena for the third time in the Africa Show piece tournament.

According to the current FIFA ranking in October 2021 Comoros is on 132 positions with their highest FIFA ranking coming in 2017 at 127 positions. On the other hand, Sierra Leone is in 107 positions with its highest FIFA ranking coming in 2014 at 50 positions.
