The Chiefdom Speaker of Gbense in Kono District who also doubles as the Treasurer for the  Kono Action Group for  Development Chief Aiah Moses Kamanda  has  said  that from the first of November, 2021 the above  named group will commence  a  swearing  ceremony for the lost and destruction of government facilities in the  district.

He made the statement when explaining to A-Z about the rationale behind the formation of Kono Action group for Development.

According to chief Kamanda, the formation of the group came awake the continuous theft and destruction of government properties which has become unbearable in the District.

He added that, every district in the country needs development from the government, but over the years, there has being massive theft and destruction of government properties.

He said the police have been informed of such issues happening in the district, but little or no effort has being made by them to address the problem.

“In view of the  above, we came together  as authorities  including some   young people who mean well for the  development   and progress of the district to take action against  those who are supporting,  buying  stealing  and destroying  government properties  in the district, because  we  have  noticed that those who are charged with the   constitutional responsibility of protecting the  citizens in the district  are not  properly performing their  functions”, chief  Kamanda  maintained.

He further intimated that the  group is  non-political with the objective of sensitizing everybody in Kono district through radio discussions  and street sensitization to give information  to stakeholders  especially the  security sector for any mismanagement  of benefited items  and to  work for  the interest of the district.

According to Chief A.M Kamanda their aims are to make sure that every development in Kono is   achieved   either by the government, NGOS Local Council or any humanitarians’ body.

They are to protect them and to add value to them in partnership with the Chiefs, stakeholders and the security sector thereby giving   reports for any misappropriation of public properties.

When  talking  on the  sustainability  of the group, Chief Aiah Moses Kamanda  explained that, the aforesaid  group is  a group that concerns  everybody in the district and it is not an organization  that is  going to fade away after the purposed  swearing ceremony  but as  long  Kono continues to stay.

He has therefore  warned  residents of  the district especially  those who have clandestinely  bought government properties  from any one  or group or  who  has an idea about  the missing  and destruction of government properties  in the district to return them or to report  to the Committee  of the  Kono action group  for  development  from  the thirty first of November, 2021.

Failing to do so, it will be at your own detriment.  However, although many people have commended the authorities for undertaking the would be action.

Stating that it will be a  solution to the problem, yet many are saying  that, the  decision is too late as  they would have taken such decision prior  to this  time which would have  fore fended the massive  destruction and stealing of government  properties.

They also implored the authorities spear heading  the would be swearing  ceremony not to only  swear those destroying  and stealing government  properties , but to as well  swear all  those financing  and involved in the alleged cannibalism in the  district.

The would be  traditional swearing  ceremony  is said  to be  targeting  the street solar lights  that were  dismantled by unknown people, the  missing  scanning machine  at the Koidu Government  Hospital and the recent  destruction of the EDSA Transformers in Koidu City  and others.

Meanwhile, prior to the proposed swearing  ceremony, a consultative  dialogue  session has been stated  for the  20th November ,  2021 at the Gbense  Native Barry by 10:00 am organized   by the  Kono Action group for Development   in collaboration with the Council of Paramount Chiefs in Kono District.
