Some residents of the Municipality of Koidu have attributed the death of the nineteen year old boy Ibrahim Marrah S.S.S. One pupil of Universe senior Secondary school in Police cells at the Koakoyima Police post in Koidu City to the carelessness of the Sierra Leone Police especially officers that were on duty when the incident occurred.
Some of the residents of the municipality of Koidu who spoke to A-Z on the aforementioned issue noted that as members of the Sierra Leone Police claim to be a Force for Good they were expecting the officers on duty to have locked the suspect who later hung himself to death in the actual Police cells rather than the exhibit room where the suspect had access to a material to hang himself to death describing it as carelessness and unprofessional not only on the side of the offices that were on duty but the Sierra Leone Police force as a whole.
It could be recalled that on that fateful night after the nineteen year old boy has hung himself, the police officers who were on duty at the aforesaid Police Post abandoned the post for the fear of mob justice.
The Area Chief of Koakoyima and the Local Unity Commander of Motema Police Divisional headquarters Superintendent of Police Junisa Ben Mohamed engaged the Youth Chairman of Koakoyima Community Sahr Moiwa in order to prevent his constituents from destroying the building that houses the said Koakoyima Police Post. Meanwhile, it could be recalled that Ibrahim Marrah now deceased was brought to the Koakoyima Police Post on Sunday night 7th November, 2021 for allegedly stealing a mobile phone belonging to his friend but upon producing the missing phone, the deceased friend who is believed to be the owner of the phone denied taking back the phone alleging that the phone had got some cracks thereby requested for two hundred thousand Leones (Le 200,000) as compensation of which the mechanic Boss to Ibrahim Marrah consented to pay with an initial advanced payment of one hundred thousand Leones (Le 100,000). The repayment did not materialise eventually leading to taking the accused to Police where he was locked up in an exhibit store or room at the Koakoyima Police Post where the accused Ibrahim Marrah allegedly hung himself to death.
Superintendent of Police Junisa Ben Mohamed is the Local Unit Commander of Motema Police Divisional Headquarters in Kono District. In an interview with our correspondent, he foremost condemned Police actions leading to the alleged hanging to death of Ibrahim Marrah noting it was neglect on the part of the Police.
He assured all and sundry that they will bring to book all the Police officers that have hands in the matter. In a separate but similar development Police constable 15246 Kamara David Samuel attached to the Motema Police Divisional headquarters has been dismissed from Sierra Leone Police Force for allegedly penetrating an underage name withheld. The Police officer whilst on duty at night at the aforementioned Police Division withdrew the underage girl from Police detention and sexually penetrated the girl.
The dismissed Police officer is expected to be arraigned before the resident Magistrate at the Sefadu Magistrate Court at D.O. Barracks in Koidu City.
