Notorious fraudster granted 100m bail

Mustapha Daramy, a notorious Fraudster who was charged to court on different case files has been granted bail in the sum of one hundred million Leones with a surety in like sum.

The accused was before magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No 1, for Preliminary Investigation on a count of obtaining money by false pretenses on all the files.

It was alleged by the police that on diverse dates this year, the accused obtained huge amount of money from different people with intent to defraud them.

When Preliminaries commenced, the prosecution docked complainant and their witnesses who narrated how they were allegedly defraud.

After serving several days at the correctional center, defense counsel A. Boize Kamara applied for bail on behalf of the accused citing section 79 (2) (3) of the Criminal Procedure Act No 32 of 1965.

Among other things, defense counsel submitted that if his client is granted bail, he will not interfere with the prosecution neither poses flight risk.

He also submitted that there are reliable persons to stand as surety and ensure that he is present in court whenever the matter may come up.

Having heard the application for bail, magistrate Sahr Kekura granted the accused bail in the sum of one hundred million Leones with a surety in like sum.

 He ordered that the surety should produce an Identified card depicting his or her address and that the bail should be approved by the Deputy Acting Registrar.

He adjourned the matter to the 23rd of November 2021 for the prosecution to dock its next witness.
