The Local Unit Commanders at the Bo West and East End Police Divisions in Bo District have intensified security patrols ahead of festive season which has led to the arrest of a large quantity of Marijuana at Gelehun Checkpoint in Bo District.
According to the Head of Police Media in the Southern Region, inspector Mohamed Bobson Senu said “as a way of policing the people in the festive season, Regional Police Commander South AIG Aiah Edward Samadia has originated a generic operational order which serves as a guide to Police before, during, and after the Festive Season. The Divisional Operations Officers were tasked to customize this operational order based on peculiarity of crimes in their respective divisions.”
In pursuant of this generic operational order, he said the operation team of Bo East Division headed by the Operations Officer Insp. Festus Lahai has on Saturday 6th November, 2021 intercepted and searched one Commercial Vehicle with registration No. ALR 068 in control of one Senesie Songu. During the course of searching, huge quantum of cannabis-sativa was discovered in the said vehicle at the Gelehun checkpoint along the Koribondo highway.
Inspector Senu said this gain was as a result of the effectiveness of personnel deployed at the said checkpoint in a bid to measure up to the herculean task. He went on to say that one Aminata Koroma of Gandohun village in the Malen Chiefdom, Pujehun District is in Police custody in respect of the said drugs for further investigation at the Transnational Organized Crime Unit TOCU in Bo.
He added that as part of the security preparedness ahead of the festive period, a sting operation was carried out at targeted grey areas within the city of Bo for which suspected hardcore and common criminals were arrested with offensive weapons and drugs during the execution. All suspects he said were detained at the Regional CID for further questioning.
