Herbalist in Jail for Wounding

Foday Abdulai Bangura has on the 26th October, 2021 made another appearance before Magistrate Hadiru K Daboh of Ross Road Court No.3 in Freetown and was refused bail for the second time.

 The accused is on five Count charges to wit causing grievous bodily harm contrary to section 18 of the offence against the person Act 1861, Wounding contrary to section 20 of the offence against the person Act 1861, assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to section 47 of the offence against the persons Act 1861, practicing sorcery contrary to section 65 (1) of Cap 3 as amended by Section 3 of Act No15 of 1965 and being in possession of sorcery implements contrary to section 65 (1) of Act No 15 of 1965.

According to particulars of offence on Monday 9th September 2021 at paw paw Road Waterloo the western area in Freetown cause grievous bodily harm, maliciously wounded, Jeneba Fofanah assaulted her in a manner thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm and was found practicing sorcery in possession of sorcery implements to wit talisman “Herbalist.”

Third prosecution witness, Sergeant 12186 Alusine Folarin attached to the regional criminal investigation department Ross Road police station said he recognized the complainant and the accused person. He said he recalled on the 9th day of July 2021 whilst on duty a transfer case of inquiry Case from Waterloo division was allocated to him for further investigation and he registered it on new serial number 4691/2021. During the investigation police medical form was brought by the complainant and he obtained statements from her witnesses and he asked the senior crime officer to take snap shots of the complainant.

The witness said on the same date the accused person was arrested and brought with a traditional healer and his Identity card.

The witness said himself with Sergeant 9169 Campbell C caution and question the accused person in krio language and he recorded it in English language the caution statement was read to the accused person and he admitted it to be true by afflicting his right hand thumb print. 

On the 14th July, the witness said himself and Sergeant 1916 Campbell C  charge the accused person with the offence of Causing grievous bodily harm, wounding,  Assault occasioning actual bodily harm, practicing sorcery and  being in possession of sorcery implements. The said charges were read to the accused person and he admitted it to be true by afflicting his right hand thumb print; witness by sergeant 9169 Campbell C and he signed as the recorder.

Lawyer representing the accused person A.I Bangura renewed his bail application and was refused. 

Magistrate Hadiru K Daboh sent the magistrate to the male correctional center in Freetown.

ASP Jeneba Bangura prosecuting the matter and has been adjourned to the 27th October 2021.
