The chairman, Head Teachers Council in Kono District says, the restriction of exam malpractices is the major factor responsible for the poor performance of pupils at external examinations in Kono District.

He made the statement in an interview with a-z to know his take on the poor performance of pupils at the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) as many fingers are pointing at the Deputy Director of education for being responsible for the district recording such abysmal result at external examinations since he took up office.

Moiwa Gandi intimated that previously, the only source for pupils and teachers to perform well was examination malpractice, now that such narratives have been changed by the government and the Minister of Education through the Deputy Director of Education in Kono District, many people have described the action as bad especially those who were involved in exam malpractice in order to accumulate colossal some of money.

He furthered that, pupils, parents, teachers head teachers and even the government shared equal blame for failure to perform their assignment which according to him has landed the district in a total mess.

In response to the question if pupils who had performed better in the past external examination were involved in similar examination malpractice, Mr. Gandi noted that Ninety percent (90%) of them were involved in exam malpractice because such restriction and monitoring were not implemented by the appropriate people concerned ,adding that though the minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education has ordered the  country to put a stop to examination malpractice; it is only few DD’s that are working by the Minister’s order.

Meanwhile, the chairman, Head Teachers Council has warned head teachers to desist from collecting monies from parents to issue out NPSE results.
