The Minister of Basic and Secondary School Education, Conard Sackey, revealed in a government weekly press conference on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024, at Miatta Conference Hall that 835 schools recorded a 100 percent pass rate in the just concluded Basic Examination and Certificate Examination (BECE).
In his opening statement, he stated that this year’s BECE results were the second best after the 2023 results and that there was a 21% improvement in the exam. He narrated that the grades for BECE ranged from 1 to 7 and announced that any grade ranging from 1 to 6 is a pass and 7 is a fail. He also stated that in the BECE, the lower your number, the better your results.
He announced that in 2024, they had the best results. 121 125 pupils took the exam, which is lower than in previous years because of the repeaters policy they had implemented. 61,957 girls took the exam compared to boys, who took 58,289.
He highlighted that 90.5% of individuals pass the BECE exam, and 21% of students have the five-subject requirement, including math or English.
Sackey mentioned that if they add up all those students’ grades, the pass rate would increase to 98%. Minister Sackey also highlighted that this year’s best students are boys and girls, and Providence School recorded a 100% pass rate.
