Christ the King College ( CKC) located in the second city of Sierra Leone, Bo was founded by catholic clergy. Directed by Archbishop Thomas Joseph Brosnahan and implemented by Mother Marie Louis De Meester in 1953 the school started giving secondary education. It was the first catholic school to have been established outside Freetown as St. Edwards was the first in Sierra Leone. And 70 years down the years CKC has trained pupils to be hard-working and honest.
And that endeavour by the Catholic Mission has paid off hugely. Due to these remarkable achievements, the alumni association, COBA (Christ the King Old Boys Association) has launched a platinum celebration headed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, an accomplished medical doctor who has worked and excelled in the United States of America.
The launching ceremony was chaired by engineer Andrew Karmoh Kelli, himself an accomplished career engineer. In that epoch-making launch of 70 years since its founding so many programs have been lined up and the national Vice President, Mohamed Bangalie was proud to say that the school has ” contributed to the socio-economic and political developments of Sierra Leone”. He never hesitated to highlight that as alumni of CKC, they want to ” give back to the country in areas of good governance, integrity and national cohesion”.
Mohamed Bangalie did not also hide the fact that the school has also been faced with challenges of disagreement among members, a drop in performance at public exams, overcrowding, etc. The platinum celebration aims to rehabilitate the assembly hall, do the tennis court, build a one-stop- centre and help improve the academic and infrastructural development of the school.
And according to Mohamed Bangalie, CKC is going to continue to ” cater for the best of brains.” As already CKC has developed students not only from Sierra Leone but from other countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia and Liberia among others. And it is no secret that the products of CKC have made impacts in their various spheres of life nationally and internationally.
