As Kono District joined other districts in the country to observe the 60th independence celebration of Sierra Leone, some residents of Kono have explained to this medium factor responsive for the stunted growth of the district and the country at large since 1961.

Mohamed Bangura a rider at the Tombodu park in Koidu city told our reporter that the purpose or reason why many African countries in the sixty’s and seventy’s stood firm to have their independence without being controlled by stronger nations adding that disunity, poor leadership, infighting, and corruption are some of the causes of the for the under development in the district and the country by extension. Noting that, it would have being better for Sierra Leoneans not to have opted for independent, adding  that since 1961 to now, there is nothing good to write home about.

In a slight different view, Andrew Bockarie expressed great happiness for the country to celebrate her 60th independence in peace amidst the Covid-19 though there are some challenges that need prompt intervention citing the poor distribution of light by EGTC and EDSA, increment in prices of commodities to name but few.

In responding to these opinions of some of the citizens in Kono, Mr Joseph Barbar Ansumana the manager of Network Movement for Justice and Development (NMJD) said the independent day was not worth celebrating for most of the people in Kono District because they are deprived of their basic amenities.
