Serving member of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) Barber Sesay with Force number 18167204 attached to the LEOBATT, including Mohamed Sheriff, Abdul Brima Kargbo, Osman Bangura, Lamin Bangura, Mustapha Bangura and Umar Kamara are before Magistrate Hadiru K. Daboh of Ross Road Court No 3 Freetown on six (6) counts of conspiracy, riotous conduct, disorderly behavior, carrying offensive weapon, trespass and unlawful possession of cannabis sativa all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
According to the charge sheet on count 1, all accused persons on Saturday 23rd October 2021, at Upper Allen town, Freetown, conspired together with other person’s unknown to commit a crime.
Count 2 state that all accused on the same date and place, behave in a riotous manner. On count 3, all accused did behave in a disorderly manner. Count 4 and 5 state that the 7th accused Umar Kamara on the same date and place, were found carrying offensive weapon to wit two (2) cutlasses and also found in possession of one wrap of cannabis sativa without lawful authority and count 6 state that all accused persons on the same date and place unlawfully entered into Government Land having been warned not to do so.
As they made their second appearance on Wednesday 3rd November 2021, before Magistrate Hadiru K Daboh on remand, the first accused RSLAF 18167204 Barber Sesay, was not on remand according to the Magistrate. All six accused were on remand, except the military officer.
Magistrate Daboh got annoyed and said he is not going to grant them bail as the soldier was not on remand instead they left him out to go home and detained the others because they were not military personnel. He added that it will imply that he granted the soldier bail and live the others out which is not so. In that light he remanded all of them until the 5th November 2021. Inspector A. Kamara is Prosecuting the matter, while Michaela P. George represented the accused persons.
