In a bid to conduct 2021 Mid Term Population and Housing Census (MTPHC), Statistics Sierra Leone has on Friday 4th June 2021 deployed 53 Cartographic Mappers to commence with the Second Phase of the Cartographic Mapping Activity in riverine chiefdoms of Mano Sa-Krim (MSK) and Yakemu Kpukumu Krim (YKK), Pujehun District, Southern Province of Sierra Leone.
Speaking to this medium upon arrival at the water dominated communities, Mohamed Kallon, the Pujehun District Census Coordinator expressed his profound gratitude to the Cartographic Mappers for arriving on time to kickstart the Second Phase of the mapping activity in hard to reach communities in his beloved district. He confirmed that residents of MSK and YKK have engaged him severally about the ongoing Cartographic Mapping exercise. Noting that they felt they were not part of the ongoing mapping activity in the country.
“These riverine communities are indeed hard to reach but the Mid Term Population and Housing Census is here to break that chain as every locality will be reached accordingly.” He revealed.
He continued that the Cartographic Mapping activity includes: sensitization of inhabitants through town hall meetings, mapping of all localities in the chiefdoms, creating of Enumeration Areas (EAs) and deploying the EAs into a destination iCloud for the attention of the Geographic Information System (GIS) Department.
Residents of the two Chiefdoms Abass Fawundu, Joseph M. Fortune and Mustapha Pessima (Arthur Pessima) unanimously welcomed the Mappers to their various communities. They affirmed that this is the first time they have seen dozens of Cartographers in their localities. They further called on members of their various communities to comply with the Mappers so that they will achieve credible data which will enhance 2021 MTPHC.
Meanwhile, the 2021 Mid-Term Population and Housing Census geared towards correcting the arnomalies that are embedded in the 2015 Census.
Thus, fishing and farming are the dominant economic activities that are undertaken in these riverine chiefdoms. The headquarters for MSK is Gbojima and the headquarters of YKK is Karlu.
