52 years Old petty trader Abu Bakarr Kanu was on Wednesday 31st May 2023 sent to prison by Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba road court No1 for the unlawful possession of 27 wraps of Kush and 50 wraps of Jamba without lawful authority.
The accused made his first appearance in court and was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of Cannabis Sativa and Kush contrary to section 8(a) of the national drugs control Act 2008, Act No 10 of 2008.
Police alleged that the accused Abu Bakarr Kanu on Wednesday 10th May 2023, at No 8 Kojo Street Makeni, in the Northern Province was found in possession of 50 wraps of cannabis sativa contained in a black plastic bag weighing 97.5 grams, without lawful authority.
The police further alleged on count two that the accused on the same date and place was found in possession of 27 wraps of Kush contained in a plastic sachet weighing 18.8 grams without lawful authority.
The accused did not take his plea and also no legal representation was made on his behalf.
Magistrate Ngegba however remanded him in prison and adjourned the matter to the 7th of June 2023.
In another development, Badmus Afeez Bangalie was sent on remand by Magistrate Ngegba for allegedly being found in possession of Jamba and tramadol.
The accused made his first appearance and was arraigned on two counts of charges ranging from unlawful possession of Cannabis Sativa and Contravention of requirement under section 59(1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs, 2001, to wit, possession of Class ‘A’ drugs without reasonable excuse Contrary to section 17 of the pharmacy and drugs Act, 2001.
According to the charge sheet, it was alleged that the accused on Wednesday 13 May 2023, at No8 Samura Drive, Brima Lane Wellington Freetown was found in possession of 2 wraps of cannabis sativa weighing 4.1 grams without lawful authority.
Whiles count two added that the accused on the same date was found in possession of Class ‘A’drugs to wit 41 strips of tracking tramadol tablets weighing 129.7 grams, without reasonable excuse.
No plea was taken since it was a preliminary investigation.
He had no legal representation in court and was remanded in prison whiles the matter was adjourned to 7th June 2023.
Police inspector Kadie M Taylor is prosecuting the matter.
