5 Battle For Port Loko City Council Chairman

Five names have emerged for the Mayoral seat of the Port Loko City Council under the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party which is supposed to award symbols to only one to contest alongside other political parties.

The latest to join the race for the Mayoral symbol is the outgone Councilor Unisa Toti Fofana, aged 32. He said the young should be given the chance to provide leadership for the Council. “It is believed that Port Loko needs a young trusted face to develop the new city”, Toti remarked, noting that having served the Council as Councilor for five years, he has what it takes in terms of experience to lead the Council and produce results. 

He boasted that as a grass root politician, he is capable of defeating any other candidate hands down. He reiterated that he has the solution already to the issues the Council has been faced with over the years. He highlighted that in terms of education, his organization, the Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation sent ten residents of Port Loko District to acquire university education, adding that he has helped capacitate over one thousand youths in the district while serving as Councilor and in the development,the world having worked with the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) sector. 

According to farmers, the APC should give a symbol to somebody that will deliver the needs of the people, especially for them farmers, someone that would not come to learn but already knows the needs and aspirations of the subjects.

Unisa Toti Fofana has promised to capacitate more youths in terms of education and agriculture which he said should be focused on seriously. 

However, the people of Port Loko have opined that the Council needs to top its game especially in carrying out its devolved functions. 

Meanwhile, all five aspirants are looking up to the party to see who is going to be nominated for that seat ahead of June 24th election.
