3 sentenced to 1 year imprisonment for possession of Kush

Detective police constable 13905 Mohamed Yusuf Jalloh attached to the exhibit store transnational organized crime unit Hastings,  has produced and tended over one hundred wraps of Kush in court.

The accused persons, Yaya Kanu, Mohamed Kanu and Mariama Bah were arraigned before Magistrate Marke Ngagba of Pademba Road Court No.1 for summary trial on three count charge of unlawful possession of Kush contrary to section 48(11) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act of 2001.

It was alleged on the charged sheet that on Tuesday 1st of November 2022 at Fisher street market, the first accused Yaya Kanu was found with ninety-six wraps of kush contained in a black plastic bag weighed three grams without lawful authority.

In count two, the second accused Mohamed Kanu was found with twenty warps of kush.

And in count the third, the accused Mariama Bah was found with ten wraps of Kush without lawful authority. They pleaded guilty on the first day they were arraigned before the court.

Shortly after the matter was mentioned yesterday, the exhibit clerk Detective police constable 13905 Mohamed Yusuf Jalloh attached to the exhibit store transnational organized crime unit, Hastings narrated how he received the drugs.

He said he was on duty on the 1st November 2022 when detective sergeant 10831 Momoh MN handed over to him ninety-six wraps of kush weighed three grams each, twenty wraps of kuch weighed two point one gram as exhibit in respect of this matter. He said he registered them in the court exhibit book and since then, they have been in his custody.

The witness produced and tendered them in respect of the prosecution’s case.

According to the prosecutor Inspector Kadie Taylor, the  fact are that on the 1st November 2022, Inspector Momoh and team, attached at Eastern police station arrested and brought in Yaya Kanu and two others from different locations whom pleaded  guilty on the allegations levied against them. All three accused persons pleaded for mercy.

After making their plea, magistrate Marke Ngagba sentenced each convict to a jail term of one year on each count and to pay the sum of one thousand new Leones.
