The Sefadu High Court at D.O Barracks in Koidu City presided our by justice Albert Moody has recently sentenced more than three convicts to different period of years imprisonment. One of the convicts Shekuba Tarawallie was sentenced to at least five years imprisonment for store breaking and larceny contrary to Section Twenty six sub-section one of the larceny acts 1961.
According to the particulars of offence Shekuba Tarawallie on the 19th day of November, 2020 at Kono in the eastern province of the republic of Sierra Leone broke and entered into the store of Tamba Peter Ngaujah and stole therein three pots valued three hundred and fifty thousand Leones and cabbage valued twenty five thousand Leones all to the total value of four hundred and seventy thousand Leones property of Tamab Peter Ngaujah.
Yanday Sesay another convict was sentenced to at least ten years imprisonment for wounding with intent contrary to section eighteen (18) of the offences against the persons Act 1861, the convict on the 18th day of April, 2021 at Kono in the Eastern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone wounded Yayah Conteh with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.
In the same court Simeon Yongai was sentenced to four years imprisonment for sexual penetration contrary to section 19 (Nineteen) of the sexual offences Act 2012 Act number 12 of 2012 as repealed and replaced by section four sub-section three of the sexual offences amendment acts 2019 act number eight of 2019.
The particulars of offence maintained that Simeon Yongai on the 20th day of May 2021 at Kono in the eastern province of the republic of Sierra Leone engaged in an act of Sexual penetration with a fourteen (14) year old girl name withheld.
The second count for the convict included meeting a child for sexual purpose contrary to section twenty three (23) sub-section one of the sexual offences Act number twelve of 2012.
Thomas Quee was also sentenced to four years imprisonment for sexual penetration contrary to section 19 of the sexual offences act No. 2012 Act number 12 of 2012 as repealed and replaced by section four sub-section three of the sexual offences amendment act 2019 act number 8 (eight) of 2019.
On the other hand for meeting a child for sexual purpose contrary to section twenty three (23) sub – section one of the sexual offences act number 12 of 2012.
The particulars of offence noted that the convict on diverse dates in the month of April 2021 at Kono in the Eastern Province of the republic of Sierra Leone engaged in an act of sexual penetration with a sixteen year old girl name withheld.
In the same court Issa Sesay was also sentenced to three years imprisonment for sexual penetration and to also compensate the victim two million Leones for Medical expenses within twenty one (21) days of the order.
The particulars of offence noted that Issa Sesay on a date unknown in July 2020 at Kono in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone engaged in an act of sexual penetration with a seventeen year old boy name withheld. Another convict Patrick Sesay was sentenced to ten years imprisonment for wounding with intent contrary to section eighteen of the offences against the persons act 1861.
Patrick on the 18th day of April 2021 at Kumao in Nimikoro Chiefdom in the Eastern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone wounded Tamba Komba with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm. Osman Kamara received at least seven years imprisonment for sexual penetration contrary to section 19 of the sexual offences act 2012 act number 12 of 2012 as repealed and replaced by section four sub-sections A three of the sexual offences amendment act 2019 act number 8 of 2019.
The Particulars of offence noted that Osman Kamara on the 31st day of May 2021 at Kono in the Eastern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone engaged in an act of sexual penetration with a seven year old girl name withheld.
Meanwhile, the last convict to be sentenced was Abdulrahman Tagma Kamara who received at least three years imprisonment for sexual penetration contrary to section 19 of the sexual offences act 2012. Act number 12 of 2012 as replaced and replaced by section four sub-sections A. Three of the sexual offences amendment act 2019 act number 8 of 2019.
The convict’s sentence also covered harbouring contrary to section twenty sub-sections one of the prevention of cruelty to children act cap 31 of the laws of Sierra Leone 1960 as amended.
However, Victor Salieu Kamara was acquitted and discharged in the same court for allegedly penetrating a minor. In conclusion of the matter as the court judged the evidence purely as inconsistence and distorted the benefit of the doubt placed in favour of the accused therefore he was acquitted and discharged.
