Twenty officers from the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have departed for the People’s Republic of China to participate in a 21-day training program designed to enhance their professional skills and strengthen cooperation between the two nations on Saturday, 11th October 2025.

This training is part of the SLP’s ongoing transformation agenda, which aims to build a more skilled and globally competent police force.

During the send-off ceremony, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sahr Yomba Senesi encouraged the officers to make the most of this opportunity, emphasizing the importance of upholding the values and discipline of the SLP while abroad. He stressed that their conduct in China would be vital in determining whether Sierra Leone continues to receive similar opportunities in the future and in fostering deeper ties between the two countries.

DIG Senesi further urged the officers to return with new knowledge and skills that would contribute to the growth and efficiency of the police service in Sierra Leone.

Echoing these sentiments, the Director of Training, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Joe Kamanda Bongay, highlighted the importance of professionalism and patriotism throughout the training period. He reminded the officers that they were representing Sierra Leone and should maintain discipline, create a positive image, and uphold national values.

ACP Bongay also noted that the officers’ presence in China would offer an opportunity to challenge any misconceptions about Sierra Leone by demonstrating professionalism and good conduct. He expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its continued support in strengthening the capacity of the Sierra Leone Police.

The 21-day program will expose participants to modern policing techniques, community policing strategies, and international best practices. Upon their return, the officers will be expected to share their experiences and contribute to improving policing standards across Sierra Leone.

This initiative underscores the SLP’s commitment to continuous learning, global partnerships, and the professional development of its personnel.
