At least two members of parliament for the Coalition for Change (C4C) party have said that Unity is the bedrock for maximised and sustainable developments in Kono District and the country as a whole. Honourable Sahr Charles and honourable Rebecca Yei Kamara made the statement in an interview with a-z regarding the recent repeal of the University Act of 2005 and the enactment of the University Act of 2021.

According to the two members of parliament, the secret behind the laudable work they have done is unity noting that with unity, the sky will be their limit in effecting developments in their respective constituencies and the district as a whole.

They pointed out that because they spoke with one voice whilst repealing and replacing the Sierra Leone higher 2005 Education Act with the university Act 2021 their colleague members of parliament from the other districts that constitute the well of parliament had no option but to support them by naming the universities after the districts regions and cities that host the said institutions.

Eastern Polytechnic University of Sierra Leone, Kono university of Science and Technology and the Milton Margai University of Technology Studies. The two law makers further implored all and sundry in Kono District to forget about petty jealousy and party politics for the sustainable development of Kono District.

However, it could be recalled that prior to the recent repeal and replacement of the country’s higher 2005 education Act with the university Act, 2021 the C4C members of parliament were allegedly divided but owing to the said mile stone development in the district and the country as a whole, the Kono MPs had no option but to come together and unanimously work for the betterment of the district and generations yet unborn.

Meanwhile, a son of the soil, Sama Mondeh has been appointed as the acting manager of the Kono University of Science and Technology whilst operations of the university are expected to commence come September this year. Sons and daughters of Kono district are urged to make good use of the said opportunity so that the establishment of the university will be meaningful in the district.
