The All People’s Congress National Young Congress has held a press conference on the 14th April 2022 at its headquarters in Freetown to clear the air on misleading information about the party’s reaction to the press release issued by the former head of state Ernest Bai Koroma on his decision of relinquishing himself from the political stage now and in the future.
The Former Head of State and party Chairman made this decision publicly in a press release issued by his Special Assistant detailed of the Former head of state thanking the party, people of Sierra Leone in giving him the chance to serve his beloved country and his dissociation from the political stage, as the chairman for the All People’s Congress (APC).
The National Publicity Secretary for the National Young Congress wing Sidi Yayah Tunis in his opening remarks thanked the former Head of State for his service to the nation and the party.
He continued that his mentorship and leadership qualities have been an example worth emulating and inspirational to them as youths.
He continued that due to misleading information on the internet they as a party had to confirm the authenticity of the press release from the Former President himself and the mixed reactions from other members of the party and across the Country.
He said the press statement from the Former Head of State is true and that they as National Young Congress express gratitude to the Former Head of State and Chairman and that he made it clear in his press release that the next coming Convention he won’t be contesting for any position and that he is with the party always.
He went on that at the time the party needed him most he is taking a heroic exit and that he will always be remembered with his legacy and foot prints of wining and serving two consecutive terms and as a party it is their responsibility to win the 2023 elections because they owe him that and support his decision to take the back seat.
Alie Conteh Secretary General for the National Young Congress in his speech also thanked the Former President and said the Former Head of State has trained them well and prepared them for this moment and they as party will leave up to fulfill his legacy and footprints in bringing the party back to power in the coming 2023 elections.
He concluded on the statements of his press release by the National Young Congress the young people of the APC are grateful to Former President Ernest Koroma and outgoing Chairman and Leader his landmark, stewardship of the glorious party and the country. They assured him of their continued hard work and foot prints and also appeal to members of the Party to embrace the potentials of a new leadership and tranquil atmosphere for a peaceful and enduring transition.
