A total of thirteen personnel of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), comprising ten males and three females, are set to be deployed to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan on March 28 and 30, 2026.

The officers will join other international peacekeepers in supporting efforts to maintain peace, security, and stability in South Sudan under the United Nations mandate.

On Friday, March 27, 2026, the team received a formal briefing from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu. In his address, the Police Chief urged the officers to demonstrate a high level of professionalism, discipline, and integrity throughout their mission.

IGP Sellu emphasized that the officers would not only represent the Sierra Leone Police but also Sierra Leone on the international stage. He reminded them of the commendable track record established by previous Sierra Leonean peacekeepers, who have consistently upheld the country’s reputation and proudly flown the national flag.

He further encouraged the contingent to build on this legacy by exhibiting exemplary conduct and fostering positive relationships with colleagues from other nations, as well as with local communities in South Sudan.

The deployment forms part of Sierra Leone’s continued contribution to global peacekeeping efforts and reinforces the country’s commitment to international peace and security.
