One of the leading humanitarian surgical centres in Sierra Leone ‘Emergency hospital’ has successfully done surgical operations to patients since January to March 2021.
In an interview with the Medical Coordinator of facility Dr. Samuele Greco, said a total number of one thousand two hundred (1,200) patients successfully underwent surgical operations at the facility and four hundred and forty four (444) that were admitted due to the seriousness of their cases. He said.
The hospital has been doing well in providing free medical treatments to the country and people from provincial head quarter towns including villages.
He further said in 2020, most of the surgical operations cases increased and 25% of the cases are been referred to the centre for professional treatments.
“The hospital has provided compartment areas by way of separating the visitors and the patients as another preventive measures of COVID 19 including hygiene kits which we provides cost free”, he said adding that since the inception of COVID 19, we have been faced with major task of confinement whenever we traveled to the country. He said.
Dilating on the operations Dr. Samuele Greco also said, all operation done within the hospital underwent physiotherapy and patients that are been discharged from the hospital come every week for an exercise in the facility.
One of the patients that underwent a successful operation of his right leg Mohamed Kamara also said, he was thankful to the centre for what he described as a blessing in disguise for the treatment and care that was provided in regaining normalcy and has since been placed on exercise.
