During a presser held at the Police Headquarters George Street in the Central Freetown, the Operational Officer of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Assistance Inspector of Police Francis Ben Lebbie has on 18th November 2021; updated Journalists that eleven People from Kono District are in Police custody over the recent election violence in Kono.
The violence that was perpetuated left huge quantity of Electoral Materials destroyed.
ASP Francis Ben Lebbie disclosed that on Sunday the 16th November 2021 at around 9:00 PM, police Inspector Osman Ganga and team arrested and brought in Sahr Baba and ten others all of Kono District for malicious damage and riotous conduct. He added that it was reported on 13th November 2021, at 17:30 Hours at Ward 91 of Constituency 27 at Yayah Village polling Center in the Sandor Chiefdom, the eleven (11) suspects were willfully engaged riotous conduct in public thereby, maliciously damaged voting materials.
“The suspects were found willfully engaged in riotous conduct in a public place and thereby, maliciously damaged a quantity of materials belonging to the National Electoral Commission voting materials during the local council Bye Election. The matter has been sent to court today”, he said.
In another update, ASP Lebbie furthered that he received another report of Office Breaking and Larceny which happened on Monday the 15th of November 2021 at around 13:00 hours.
He also disclosed that a Chinese National at the Leone Casino Aberdeen, arrested and brought in Abu Bakarr Samura of Guma Compound Towel Hill, Abdulai Jalloh of Craft Town , Alusine Kamara of Tourist Board Aberdeen and Hassan Kanu of No. 6 Juba Hill.
The Chinese national reported that On Friday the 12th November 2021, the aforementioned suspects conspired together with other persons unknown to the Casino authorities and stole the sum of about seven hundred Million Leones (Le 700,000,000) from the Chinese National.
He continued that on Wednesday 17th November 2021, Superintended Bai Kamara of the Regional Office East of Makeni and Team, also arrested and brought in one Mohamed Conteh alias “Osokobana” of back of Makeni Government Hospital, for publishing an audio message on social media containing inciting statement against the government of Sierra Leone and insulting words against President Bio.
He considered the said action as a calculated move to cause civil unrest in the country.
