After a long rumbling and grumbling including lobbying regarding who should be the running mate to Dr. Samura Kamara of the main opposition party (APC) the Flag Bearer, and the NAC members have on the 13th March,2023 finally settled down for the erudite member of Parliament, Hon Chernor Maju Bah as the running mate come June 24th elections.
The appointment was made after extensive consultations with the National Advisory Committee (NAC) of the APC.
Both men led the party in the 2018 General Elections which they lost to the ruling SLPP in a close contest.
Before the appointment many names had emerged for the position with widespread speculations around 5 women and 6 men amongst which include Madam Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr and Sheik Mohamed Kamara (AKA Jagaban).
Hon. Komboh Kamara was also endorsed National Campaign Chairman for the party ahead of the crucial elections.
Hon Chernor Maju Bah as Running Mate to Dr. Samura Kamara was seen as a side lining of former Vice President Chief Alhaji Samuel Samsumana and the new kid in the block, Mohammed Omuju Kamara aka Money Jagaban who hailed from the East is said to be a factor that will be responsible for the defeat of the APC in the Presidential election on June 24th.
However, critics believed that the continued exclusion of South- Easterners and the total disregard of the elders of the APC from that region by the APC or NAC have strongly sent a clear message that they do not need them.
