The intervention of the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) in the lower level election saga of the National Grand Coalition party (NGC) has settled the dust of confusion that emanated from the ruling of the Committee constituted within the party.
It could be recalled that the party went to the PPRC over the conduct of the lower level election which according to complaints did not go on well.
The party constituted a Committee to look into the lower level election matter and proffer recommendations.
The ruling of the Committee which called for the elections to be redone at some areas and power be divided amongst the contestants, did not augur well with those that thought they actually won the elections. The PPRC kicked against the Committee’s ruling and declared the winners of the elections and allowed the party to continue with the rest of the process.
According to the Chairman of PPRC, Abdul M. Bangura (esq) the Western Rural and Kenema Districts primaries went on peacefully with nothing to worry about.
He said political parties must respect their structures and go by what their constitutions dictate to the latter. He pointed out that they will continue to play their referee role and ensure that the right thing is done.
In another development, the main opposition APC is expected to hold its lower level and Delegate Conference from now on to January 2023, whilst the ruling SLPP are far ahead looking at the bigger picture.
