A land dispute between two committees in Sandor Chiefdom has left Aiah Matturie, a resident of Sinkingorma Village, severely injured. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at around 9:00 AM, according to Thompson Peter Ndapi, the Media and Public Relations Officer of the Motema Police Divisional Headquarters in Nimikoro Chiefdom.
The Motema Police Division received a distress call early last week regarding the violent confrontation. Following the call, Aiah Matturie and Tamba Matturie of Sinkingorma Village arrived at the police station and reported that they were attacked by a group of men armed with cutlasses. The attackers, identified as Aiah Foday and Tamba Forday, led the assault on the villagers.
In an interview, Aiah Matturie, Mohamed Bonga, Tamba Yamba, and Samuel Sumowa detailed the events to Officer Ndapi. They confirmed that the attack left Aiah Matturie with injuries on his left hand and forehead. Immediate medical attention was sought, and Matturie returned to the police station with an endorsed medical form from Koidu Government Hospital.
In response to the incident, a team of police officers, led by DSP Daniel Dauda Sovula, Support Officer of the Motema Police Division, was dispatched to the scene. The officers, traveling in SLP 226, promptly initiated an investigation.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing as authorities work to resolve the dispute and bring the perpetrators to justice.
